Calories burned running
Enter your weight and the distance you ran. You get the calories burned, and what that looks like for a 5K and 10K.
How it works
On flat ground, running costs about 1 kcal per kg of body weight per km (from the ACSM running equation). Uphill adds about 4.5% of that for every 1% of incline. Your watch may show a slightly different number, because it also counts the calories you would have burned anyway.
The Run app shows the calories of every run, and you can set a calorie goal for a run.
Questions
How many calories does running burn?
About 1 calorie per kilogram of body weight per kilometre. A 70 kg person burns about 350 calories running 5 km, whatever the pace.
Does running faster burn more calories?
Per kilometre, barely: the distance matters far more than the speed. Running faster burns more per minute, but you cover the same distance in less time.
Running or walking: which burns more?
Per kilometre, running burns roughly 1.5 to 2 times more than walking at a normal pace. Walk/run intervals sit in between, and they are how most beginners start.
Let the app do the maths
Run tracks your pace, distance and heart rate on every run, and builds a plan from zero to 5K or 10K that adapts to how you feel.
