Pace calculator
Enter any two of time, distance and pace. You get the third, in kilometres and miles.
How it works
Pace = time ÷ distance. A 5K in 30 minutes is 30 ÷ 5 = 6:00 per km. Time = pace × distance, anddistance = time ÷ pace. One mile is 1.609 km, so a pace per mile is the pace per km × 1.609.
Beginners: don’t chase a pace. Run slowly enough to talk, and let the pace come. In the Run app your plan is built on minutes, not speed, and the coach reads your pace aloud while you run.
Questions
How do I calculate my running pace?
Divide your time by your distance. 30 minutes for 5 km is 30 ÷ 5 = 6 minutes per km. For miles, divide by the distance in miles: 30 ÷ 3.11 = 9:39 per mile.
What is a good pace for a beginner?
Any pace where you can still talk. For most beginners that is between 6:30 and 8:30 per km (10:30–13:40 per mile). Your easy pace gets faster on its own as you run more.
What pace do I need for a 30-minute 5K?
6:00 per km, or 9:39 per mile. See the 5K pace chart for every finish time.
Pace or speed: what’s the difference?
Pace is time per distance (6:00 per km), speed is distance per time (10 km/h). Runners use pace; treadmills use speed. Use the treadmill converter to switch.
Let the app do the maths
Run tracks your pace, distance and heart rate on every run, and builds a plan from zero to 5K or 10K that adapts to how you feel.
